Heather holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Western Michigan University with a Master's specialty certificate in Holistic Health.

Heather has worked extensively with families, children, adolescents and adults specializing in mental health and substance abuse issues. She uses a collaborative approach to therapy to create a safe space to explore healing from trauma, depression, anxiety and assist clients in building healthy coping skills to assist in stress management, relapse prevention and self-care. Heather’s core modalities and interventions include art therapies, play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness. She wholeheartedly believes in the transformative power of compassion and empathy and teaches others how to develop these skills for themselves and for others.

Throughout her employment at Community Healing Centers, Heather provided home-based therapy in the Early Intervention Program. In the Children’s Advocacy Center, she worked with children who have been sexually abused and their non-offending family members. She provided outpatient therapy and facilitated intensive substance abuse groups, (IOP), and co-developed the Co-Occurring Adolescent Program. Heather also spent five years serving as the residential coordinator and therapist at the Gilmore Community Healing Center Detox and Residential facility.

Heather has taught an undergraduate Holistic Health class at WMU, co-authored a book chapter in The Therapist's Notebook for Integrating Spirituality in Counseling II. She also presented at the Biannual Conference for the Association for Specialists in Group Work in New York.
